Saty Raghavachary

Before joining USC full-time (in fall '14), I was a part-time instructor both at USC (10 years) and at Gnomon School of Visual Effects (12 years). I was also a Premium Support Specialist at Autodesk, Inc. for two years.

At USC, I teach graphics courses (introductory CG, rendering, animation/simulation..) and also UG/G non-CG courses. At Gnomon I taught classes on Maya (MEL), Python, RenderMan and visual math.

I'm the author of Rendering for Beginners: Image synthesis using RenderMan and co-author of The RenderMan Shading Language Guide. I'm currently co-authoring a book on Maya Python.

From 1996-2012, I was at DreamWorks Feature Animation, where I was a senior graphics software developer with the R&D dept. for eleven years, and following that, senior training specialist for the last five. My movie credits include:

Previously was Software Manager at MetroLight Studios, a pioneering CG visual effects studio.

Obtained three MS degrees and PhD at The Ohio State University, and also did postdoctoral research there. Obtained a B.Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. Member of ACM, IEEE (Computer Society) and American Mensa.
